The Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has praised the ongoing deliberations at the National Assembly concerning the Political Representation and Seat Reservation for Women Bill (HB.1349).
She made this known on Tuesday during her address at the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Women’s Empowerment Programme in Delta State.
According to the Minister, the proposed legislation aims to address longstanding structural barriers that have historically limited women’s participation in governance and left their voices underrepresented.
“This important bill seeks to foster an inclusive political environment by removing structural impediments to women’s active participation in governance,” she said.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim further stated that the Renewed Hope Women’s Empowerment Programme forms part of the Federal Government’s broader strategy to empower women socially, economically, and politically.

She noted that food and non-food items had been distributed to vulnerable women to support their livelihoods and strengthen their economic resilience. Additionally, Solar Home Power Systems were distributed to selected female beneficiaries.
She also highlighted the ministry’s efforts in scaling up key initiatives, including the End Energy Poverty Project, the Nigeria for Women Project – Scale Up (NFWP-SU), and sustained legislative advocacy aimed at strengthening protections against gender-based violence.
Among other innovations, she announced the launch of the Happy Woman App, a digital platform designed as a one-stop hub where women can access empowerment programmes, funding opportunities, and a national marketplace.
“I call on all stakeholders to renew their commitment to ensuring that women not only lead in the markets and on the farms but also in boardrooms, parliaments, and the emerging green and blue economies,” the Minister concluded.
