President Bola Tinubu has paid a heartfelt tribute to Nigeria’s comedy icon, Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, popularly known as Alibaba, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, lauding his pioneering role in the evolution of the country’s entertainment industry.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President described Alibaba as a cultural trailblazer who redefined Nigerian entertainment and elevated stand-up comedy to a respected and professional art form.
President Tinubu praised the comedian, compere, and actor for his significant contributions to the creative sector, describing him as a visionary who has inspired a generation of performers.
“Alibaba is more than a comedian; he is a visionary who revolutionised an entire industry through dedication, innovation, and resilience,” the President said.
A native of Agbarha-Otor in Delta State, Alibaba is widely acknowledged for transforming stand-up comedy from an informal form of entertainment into a structured and dignified profession.

He began his career performing at high-level corporate events and featured across various radio and television platforms. His major breakthrough came through hosting official government functions, where his sharp wit and commanding stage presence won national acclaim.
President Tinubu noted that Alibaba’s success opened the doors for numerous young talents, enabling them to pursue comedy as a viable and fulfilling career.
“He mentored emerging comedians and created opportunities for new talent to shine. The vibrant comedy scene we see today owes much to his innovation and courage,” the President added.
Often regarded as the father of Nigerian stand-up comedy, Alibaba has been instrumental in building the industry into a thriving creative ecosystem with measurable contributions to the nation’s GDP.
Beyond his own achievements, his brand of humour often laced with social commentary has played a vital role in shaping public discourse and challenging societal norms.
President Tinubu encouraged Alibaba to continue mentoring the next generation of creatives, applauding his decades of professionalism, consistency, and influence.
Describing him as a national treasure and a living legend, the President wished him continued good health, long life, and many more years of impact in Nigeria’s growing creative landscape.
