The Sokoto State Government has confirmed that a joint air operation conducted by the Nigerian military and the United States Government in Tangaza Local Government Area did not result in any civilian casualties.
The confirmation was contained in a statement issued by the Director-General of Media and Publicity at Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, and released to journalists in the state.
According to the statement, the full impact of the airstrike could not be immediately ascertained, as security authorities are awaiting a detailed assessment from the Joint Operations team.
It further disclosed that the circumstances surrounding objects discovered near Jabo Town in Tambuwal Local Government Area remain unclear, pending the outcome of analysis by Nigerian and United States military authorities. The statement, however, reiterated that no civilian casualties were recorded in the area.
“Sokoto State welcomes any collaboration between Nigeria and all relevant global stakeholders aimed at curbing the menace of terrorism and cross-border crimes in the state.
“The ongoing operations are geared towards securing the state and ensuring the protection of the lives and property of the citizenry,” the statement said.
The government noted that over the past two years, it has consistently supported security agencies in combating banditry and terrorism by providing essential equipment to enhance security across the state.
It therefore urged residents of affected communities to continue cooperating with both the Federal and State Governments by supplying useful information to security agencies, in order to sustain efforts towards achieving lasting peace and security. “Continue to pray to Almighty Allah to assist our security agencies to defeat criminals in the state and the country at large.”
