Minister Commissions Completed NEDC Projects in Maiduguri

The Minister of State for Regional Development, Hon. Uba Maigari Ahmadu, has commissioned and officially handed over major infrastructure and development projects completed by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in Borno State to Governor Babagana Zulum.

The handover ceremony, which took place in Maiduguri, featured a broad range of projects aimed at strengthening public infrastructure, improving healthcare and security, and enhancing economic development across the state.

Commissioned Projects Included:

  1. Newly Constructed Police Barracks in Konduga and Bama LGAs

    • Police stations with fortified armouries

    • Perimeter fencing and gatehouses

  2. Procurement of Heavy-Duty Equipment

    • Two (2) units of excavators (dredgers)

  3. Supply of Building Materials

    • 4,000 bundles of roofing sheets

    • 500,000 units of 9″ blocks

    • 300,000 units of 6″ blocks

    • 25,000 ceiling boards

    • 4,000 cartons of nails

    • 10,000 bags of cement

    • 2,500 units of Y12 reinforcement rods

    • Quantity of Y20 reinforcement rods

  4. Upgraded Borno State Central Medical Store

    • Upgraded to pharmaceutical-grade standard

    • Installation of a 129.6KWh solar hybrid mini-grid system

    • Installation of a 300KWh back-up generator

  5. Renovation of Female Wards

    • Renovated and remodelled female wards at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Maiduguri

  6. DSS Ultra-Modern Clinic

    • Constructed and fully equipped DSS clinic powered by a 30KWh solar mini-grid

    • Construction of two (2) three-bedroom staff bungalows in Maiduguri

  7. ICT Centre at the Agency for Mass Literacy

    • Installation of 50 desktop computers

    • Solar mini-grid to power the facility

  8. Dental Hospital, Maiduguri

    • Fully constructed and furnished male and female wards

    • Fully equipped theatre rooms

  9. Eye Hospital, Maiduguri

    • Construction and furnishing of both male and female sections

Governor Zulum, who personally received the projects, expressed appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Regional Development and the Federal Government for their efforts and commitment to infrastructural and human development in Borno. He assured that the commissioned projects would be put to full use for the benefit of the people.

Earlier, during a courtesy visit to the Governor’s office, the Minister outlined the Ministry’s broader regional development agenda, including:

  • Establishment of a North East Regional Airline

  • Development of a North East Rail Line connecting the region to the Calabar Port

  • Creation of a North East Pharmaceutical Company to produce essential medicines locally

  • North East Power Generation and Distribution Company to ensure sustainable energy supply

  • Integrated Feed Mill and Poultry Project to promote agro-industrial growth

  • North East Civil Engineering Company aimed at creating jobs and retaining construction expertise within the region

According to the Minister, these strategic initiatives are part of a comprehensive plan to drive regional economic transformation, ensure self-reliance, and promote inclusive growth across the North East.
