Vice President Kashim Shettima has directed the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to review and submit new fare rates for the 2026 Hajj within two days.

The directive follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s instruction for an immediate review of the pilgrimage fares in light of the continued appreciation of the naira against the dollar, which remains a key factor in determining Hajj costs.

Delivering the President’s directive on Monday during a meeting with NAHCON management and board members at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the Vice President emphasised the need for synergy between national and state Hajj officials, including state governors, to ensure a uniform and realistic fare structure.

Shettima also called for prompt action by all stakeholders to guarantee timely payments and remittances to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), stressing that such measures were essential to facilitate a hitch-free 2026 Hajj exercise.

“All relevant authorities must work together to review the fares in line with the prevailing exchange rate and ensure early preparations for a smooth and successful Hajj,” the Vice President stated.

The meeting is part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to ease financial pressure on intending pilgrims while maintaining efficient coordination for next year’s pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.
