The Coronation Art Gallery has unveiled its inaugural art exhibition of the year, reaffirming the profound ability of art to connect, inspire, and preserve cultural heritage.

In a statement released by the organisers on Saturday, the exhibition featured private collections from Mr Hakeem Adedeji and Ms Ngozi Edozien, two distinguished collectors who have dedicated decades to supporting African art.

Curated by Ugoma Ebilah, the exhibition guided visitors on an evocative journey exploring themes of identity, memory, and meaning.

Speaking on the exhibition, Ngozi Akinyele, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at Coronation, remarked: “This exhibition is particularly significant as it encapsulates the entire spectrum of the art ecosystem from creation and curation to collecting, conservation, and commerce. Coronation is honoured to be central to this endeavour.

“Through our programming and partnerships, we strive to democratise access to art and foster the growth of the creative economy in a manner that is inclusive and sustainable.”

Jibola Odedina, Chief Executive Officer of Coronation Securities, shared the organisation’s broader vision: “The Coronation Art Gallery embodies our identity and values. Our quarterly exhibitions serve as a reminder to our clients and community that legacy extends beyond financial achievements; it encompasses cultural preservation and thoughtful stewardship.”

Reflecting on his personal experience, Hakeem Adedeji spoke of his longstanding commitment as a collector and patron: “I have collected Samuel Ajobiewe’s works for over 25 years. We established Kobomoje, an artist residency in Ibadan, and run programmes dedicated to supporting artists.

“Our support for various initiatives within the art ecosystem stems not from expectation of reward, but from a genuine satisfaction in nurturing the entire creative community.”

According to the statement, the exhibition attracted Nigeria’s leading business figures, creatives, diplomats, and cultural custodians.

Notable attendees included JoEllen Gorg, Acting Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos; Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Chairman of Coronation Group; alongside numerous CEOs, diplomats, art patrons, and collectors.

The exhibition further underscored Coronation’s dedication to fostering platforms that promote culture while enhancing client engagement.

Since its establishment in May 2022 under the vision of Aig-Imoukhuede, the gallery has become renowned for showcasing rare private collections.
