Nigeria is set to host the 4th African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit (AFNIS), aimed at advancing the continent’s natural resources through intelligent, cross-sector collaboration for sustainable development.
This was stated in a press release by Mr Segun Tomori, Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, on Monday in Abuja.
According to Tomori, AFNIS, scheduled to hold from 14 to 17 July in Abuja, is Africa’s foremost platform for harnessing the continent’s vast natural and energy resources to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

He noted that the fourth edition of the summit will facilitate trade and knowledge exchange, support the formulation of enabling policies for the natural resources sector, and showcase investment opportunities across Africa.
“The fourth AFNIS will convene visionaries, policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders dedicated to unlocking the full potential of Africa’s natural wealth.
“This year’s summit brings together experts from mining, energy, agriculture, and finance sectors, alongside policymakers from across the continent.
“The objective is to develop innovative solutions that will chart a course for sustainable growth through local innovation and collaboration,” he explained.
Tomori added that the 2025 summit will foster partnerships and attract investment to Nigeria, with the Minister of Solid Minerals Development expected to highlight reforms positioning the mining sector as a key driver of Nigeria’s industrial expansion.
The four-day event carries the theme: ‘Harnessing Local Content for Sustainable Development’.
“This summit provides Nigeria with an opportunity to consolidate partnerships that led to multi-billion-dollar investment deals at the sidelines of the G20 summit in New Delhi in 2023, while also opening new avenues for expanded collaboration with Nigeria’s business community,” he said.
He further revealed that a lithium processing plant will be unveiled during the summit, exemplifying Minister Alake’s commitment to local value addition. The project is anticipated to create jobs, facilitate technology transfer, and stimulate industrial growth.
The AFNIS 2025 will gather senior dignitaries from over 25 countries, alongside executives from prominent organisations such as the African Development Bank, World Health Organization (WHO), Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, International Finance Corporation (IFC), and Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), among others.
The 3rd AFNIS edition in 2024, held in Abuja, brought together key stakeholders from the mining, agriculture, finance, power, and energy sectors both renewable and non-renewable to encourage cross-sector collaboration.
Building on the successes of previous editions, AFNIS 2025 will continue discussions initiated in 2022 on the sustainable development of Africa’s natural resources, and in 2023, which addressed the need for a just and equitable transition towards a greener Africa.
The 2024 agenda emphasised the vital role of Africa’s abundant natural resources in driving economic prosperity and empowering marginalised communities.
