AFRIMA 2026 Week Kicks Off In Lagos State

The Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has inaugurated the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2025 edition of the All-Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), scheduled to take place in Lagos from 25 to 30 November under the theme “Unstoppable Africa.”

The inter-agency committee was inaugurated on Wednesday at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja. Its membership includes representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Nigerian Film Corporation, National Film and Video Censors Board, Ministry of Interior, National Council for Arts and Culture, AFRIMA, and the African Union Commission, among others.

Musawa said AFRIMA, in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC), had sought sponsorship and partnership with the ministry to ensure the successful hosting of the ninth edition of the awards.

She described AFRIMA as a powerful symbol of African creativity and the dynamic energy that defines the continent’s music scene.

“This inauguration marks the beginning of what promises to be a remarkable and demanding journey,” the minister said. “It is our collective responsibility to ensure a seamless and well-coordinated event.”

Musawa added that the ongoing collaboration between the ministry, AFRIMA and the AUC had been fruitful over the years and would be further strengthened by this edition.

“To the LOC members: your experience, insight and dedication are vital to the success of this event,” she said. “We rely on your leadership, integrity, and teamwork to deliver a world-class celebration of African music.”

Also speaking at the inauguration, AFRIMA President Mike Dada welcomed the formation of the LOC, describing the 2025 edition as a landmark event.

According to him, AFRIMA 2025 will host top and emerging African music stars, creative industry stakeholders, international media, diplomats and fans from across the globe.

Dada said the event is expected to attract over 1,600 nominees and their teams, alongside more than 25,000 local and international guests.

He added that a number of activities would precede the awards ceremony, including the AFRIMA Music Conference and several country and city tours.

“African music now commands global attention from Afrobeats to Amapiano, Soukous and more our artistes are world-class,” he said. “But we must tell our stories ourselves, and that requires more than private sector support. We need policymakers and institutional leadership to make it work.”

AFRIMA, founded in 2014 by the International Committee in partnership with the African Union, aims to recognise and reward musical talent across Africa while promoting the continent’s rich cultural heritage.
