Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has declared the state’s readiness to host the 2025 edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), reaffirming Lagos’s position as Africa’s creative and cultural capital.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by a joint delegation of the African Union and AFRIMA International Committee, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his administration’s enthusiasm and preparedness to welcome Africa’s biggest music celebration.

“One of the key pillars of our administration’s development agenda is the creative industry,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“Since I took office, we’ve been intentional about building a vibrant creative ecosystem supporting film, music, fashion, photography, and cultural tourism.”

The governor noted that hosting AFRIMA aligns with his vision to turn Lagos into a global hub for entertainment, tourism, and innovation.

“AFRIMA is more than a music award. It is a cultural movement that unites the continent. Lagos is proud to be the city that tells Africa’s story to the world through music,” he added.

Angela Martins, Head of Culture and Acting Director for Social Development, Culture, and Sport at the African Union Commission, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering commitment to the arts and cultural development.

“We are proud to associate with Lagos and to see the creative policies of the African Union being given life through platforms like AFRIMA. The award has become a crucial tool to communicate and promote the AU’s cultural vision under Agenda 2063,” Martins said.

Also speaking, AFRIMA President and Executive Producer, Mike Dada, applauded Lagos for its consistent investment in the entertainment sector, adding that AFRIMA 2025 promises far-reaching economic and cultural impact.

“With over 1,600 artistes nominated annually, more than 1,100 production crew members expected in 2025, and a global broadcast audience exceeding 400 million, Lagos will not just host an event. It will host an experience that amplifies Africa’s voice through music,” Dada said.

He emphasised the economic boost the week-long event would bring, especially to tourism, hospitality, and youth employment.

The African Union and AFRIMA International Committee are set to officially unveil Lagos as the 2025 host city during a formal presentation ceremony scheduled for 13 May in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The 2025 edition of AFRIMA is expected to attract global attention, celebrating African music, talent, and culture while showcasing Lagos as a leading destination for creative excellence.
