Veteran entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as CharlyBoy, has called on Nigerians to support Nollywood actor Tom Njemanze, who is currently battling prostate cancer.

Njemanze, known for his roles in classics like Issakaba and Osuofia in London, recently appeared in a viral video from his hospital bed, appealing for financial help to undergo urgent surgery.

Confirming the actor’s condition, CharlyBoy said the required treatment runs into millions of naira and urged Nigerians not to wait until it’s too late.

“Our Nollywood icon, Tom Njemanze, is lying in a hospital bed, fighting for his life. Prostate complications are draining him,” he said. “This isn’t just about Tomit’s about how we value those who gave us joy on screen.”

He added that the CharlyBoy Foundation is rallying support from fans, colleagues, and well-meaning Nigerians. “Let’s rise for Tom. Don’t wait for RIP hashtags. Donate whatever you can. Nothing is too small.”

In addition to the fundraising, CharlyBoy also announced the launch of a nationwide campaign on prostate cancer awareness, aimed at encouraging men to undergo regular screening and seek early treatment.

Having survived prostate cancer himself, the 73-year-old said his experience inspired him to take action. “Too many men are suffering in silence. We must talk about it, test for it, and treat it early.”

The initiative, led by the CharlyBoy Foundation, also targets broader men’s health issues, including mental well-being and diabetes, with the goal of promoting a healthier, more informed society.
