Rema Dominates 9th AFRIMA Awards With Triple Win

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Rema was the standout star at the 9th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), held at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos on Sunday night.

The Afrobeats artist secured the prestigious Artiste of the Year award, cementing his status as one of the continent’s leading musical figures.

Rema also triumphed in the Best Male Artiste in Western Africa and Best African Artiste, Duo or Group in African RnB & Soul categories, underscoring his dominant influence across Africa’s music scene over the past year.

His triple victory capped an electrifying evening that celebrated African music across regional and continental categories, attracting top performers, industry executives, and cultural stakeholders from across Africa and beyond.

Meanwhile, Burna Boy’s album, No Sign of Weakness, was named Album of the Year, while Shallipopi’s track Laho won Song of the Year. Phyno emerged victorious in the Best African Artiste, Duo or Group in African Hip Hop category.

In the regional awards, Singuila of Congo claimed Best Male Artiste in Central Africa, while Cindy Le Coeur from the Democratic Republic of Congo won Best Female Artiste in Central Africa.

Eastern Africa honours went to Jux of Tanzania as Best Male Artiste, with Denise of Madagascar named Best Female Artiste, while Team Paiya of Côte d’Ivoire secured Best African Duo, Group or Band.

In Northern Africa, Adviser of Mauritania took Best Male Artiste, while Egypt’s Sherine won Best Female Artiste.

Southern Africa winners included Yo Maps of Zambia as Best Male Artiste, and South Africa’s Nontokozo Mkhize as Best Female Artiste.

In Western Africa, Rema claimed Best Male Artiste, with Ghana’s Wendy Shay awarded Best Female Artiste.

Continental categories recognised Milo of Côte d’Ivoire as Best Male Artiste in African Inspirational Music, with compatriot Morijah winning the female category. Guinea’s Manamba Kanté secured Best African Artiste, Duo or Group in African Pop, while Benin Republic’s Axel Merryl won Best Artiste, Duo or Group in African Contemporary Music.

Yemi Alade received Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series or Documentary for You Are, and Senegal’s Bakhaw Dioum was named Songwriter of the Year for Choix.

South Africa’s Ciza won Breakout Artiste of the Year, while Nigeria’s Qing Madi earned Most Promising Artiste of the Year.

The evening also celebrated African collaboration, with Shallipopi and Burna Boy’s Laho winning Best African Collaboration.

The 9th AFRIMA Awards reinforced the platform’s mission to showcase African creativity, unity, and global cultural influence, with Rema’s multiple victories standing out as the defining highlight of the night.
