Nigerian Afrobeats star Wizkid is among the leading nominees for the 18th Headies Awards, securing seven nominations across major categories.
The nominations, announced this week, feature some of Nigeria’s biggest music stars, including Davido, Burna Boy, Omah Lay, Rema, Tems and Ayra Starr.
Wizkid’s nominations include Best Male Artiste, Digital Artiste of the Year, Afrobeats Album of the Year and Album of the Year. His album Morayo is also in contention for Afrobeats Album of the Year, while his collaborations with Asake, including “MMS” and “Jogodo”, earned nominations in major song categories.
Emerging artiste FOLA leads the nominations with 10, followed by Wizkid and Davido, who have seven nominations each, according to reports on the full nominations list.
The 18th Headies will be held in Canada in October, continuing the awards’ international expansion and celebration of Nigerian and African music.
