Gombe Reconstitutes Committee to Preserve Cultural Heritage

As part of efforts to protect and promote Gombe State’s historical and cultural heritage, the State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has approved the reconstitution of the Committee on the Preservation of Museums and Monuments

The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, announced the decision, saying the Emir of Gombe, His Royal Highness Dr Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, will chair the committee.

The Commissioner for Information, Strategy and Culture will serve as Deputy Chairman, while other members include the State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), the Director-General of Gombe Media Corporation and elder statesman Alhaji Yaya Hammari.

Other members are Yakubu Sarma, Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties; Dr Usman Isa Ya’u, a historian; and Alhaji Abdulfatah Aliyu.

The Head of the Civil Service, Professor Muazu Shehu, will serve as Secretary to the committee.

Njodi said the reconstitution reflected the governor’s commitment to safeguarding the historical records, monuments and cultural assets that form an important part of Gombe’s identity and collective heritage.

He added that the committee would work to protect significant landmarks from deterioration and ensure their preservation for future generations.

According to the SSG, the appointments take effect immediately.
