Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Libreville, Gabon, to represent Nigeria at the inauguration of Gabon’s President-elect, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.
A statement issued on Saturday by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications (Office of the Vice President), confirmed Shettima’s departure.
Oligui Nguema, who has served as Gabon’s interim leader since August 2023, won a decisive victory in the country’s presidential election held on April 12, 2023.

According to the final results released by Gabon’s Constitutional Court, Oligui Nguema received 58,074 votes, amounting to 94.85% of the total votes cast. He faced seven challengers, including former Prime Minister Alain Claude Bilie-By-Nze, who secured second place with just three percent of the vote, while the other candidates failed to exceed the one percent threshold.
Nigeria continues to support Gabon’s peaceful democratic transition and reaffirms its commitment to promoting democratic governance and regional stability in Central Africa.
