Striker Ivan Toney has been recalled to the England squad following a standout season with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, while Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has been handed his first senior call-up by head coach Thomas Tuchel.

Announced on Friday, the 26-man squad is set to face Andorra in a World Cup qualifier on 7 June, followed by a friendly against Senegal three days later.

There was no place for Arsenal full-back Ben White or West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen. Meanwhile, no players from Manchester City or Manchester United featured on the list, with City’s Phil Foden opting out and United’s Harry Maguire omitted. Marcus Rashford, currently on loan at Aston Villa, was also excluded.

AC Milan loanee Kyle Walker, still officially a Manchester City player, made the squad, having requested a move away from the club in January. Jordan Henderson retained his place, now at Ajax following his move from Liverpool, and is joined by debutants Bukayo Saka, Conor Gallagher, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all appearing in a Tuchel squad for the first time.

Toney’s inclusion drew significant attention. The 29-year-old, who last featured for England in 2024, served an eight-month suspension in 2023 for breaching FA betting regulations. Since joining Al-Ahli from Brentford last summer, he has netted 22 goals in 29 league appearances, ranking just behind Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League scoring charts.

“We saw goals  decisive goals and a major title,” Tuchel said of Toney’s campaign. “He played a crucial role in Al-Ahli’s Asian Champions League success. This is our first opportunity to see him in camp, assess his personality and quality first-hand.”

Chalobah, who was recalled by Chelsea in January after a loan spell at Crystal Palace, has impressed Tuchel with his recent form.

“Trevoh has made tremendous strides since returning to Chelsea,” said the manager. “He was already on our radar before the last international window, and he’s been one of Chelsea’s most consistent defenders in recent months. At present, he’s slightly ahead of Harry Maguire in our thinking.”

Tuchel explained that Ben White’s omission was due to timing, as the Arsenal defender is expecting a child. Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, meanwhile, was advised to continue developing as a leader with the under-21s.

Commenting on his squad selection, Tuchel said: “Henderson brings leadership and maintains our standards in the group. Senegal will be a much sterner test than Andorra and is the ideal opportunity to assess new players in a competitive environment.”

England currently top Group K, having secured 2–0 and 3–0 wins over Albania and Latvia in March. They face Andorra in Barcelona before hosting Senegal at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground.
