Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau has resigned from his position, bringing his tenure as the head of Nigerian football’s governing body to an end.
Gusau confirmed his resignation on Thursday during a press conference in Abuja, amid growing pressure over the state of Nigerian football.
Several members of the NFF Executive Committee have also reportedly stepped down, with the leadership shake-up deepening uncertainty over the administration of Nigerian football and the federation’s planned elections.

The development follows a difficult period for Nigeria’s national teams. The Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while the Super Falcons recently missed out on qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time in their history.
Pressure on the NFF leadership had intensified in recent weeks, with stakeholders demanding changes following the teams’ disappointing performances and concerns surrounding the administration of Nigerian football.
The NFF Congress has summoned an emergency meeting in Abuja to consider the leadership changes and determine the next steps for the federation. The meeting is expected to examine the status of the Executive Committee and Secretariat and consider measures under NFF, CAF and FIFA statutes.
