Arjun Menon, the Operations Manager of Cricket Malawi and a former Singaporean national cricketer, has been brutally murdered at his residence in Blantyre, Malawi. He was 48 years old.
The incident, which occurred on 10 May 2025 in the Namiwawa suburb of Blantyre, has sent shockwaves through the local and international cricket communities. According to initial reports, Menon was attacked by unknown assailants. The Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) confirmed his death, describing it as a “heartless act of violence” and calling for justice to be swiftly served.
Menon, who was born in Singapore, began his cricket career at Saint Patrick’s School and played for the national youth team before making his senior debut in 1997 against the UAE. He later moved to Australia for higher studies and transitioned into coaching, where he held several leadership roles in countries such as Chile, Botswana, Indonesia, and his native Singapore.
He joined Cricket Malawi as Operations Manager in 2020 and was widely credited with transforming the sport in the country. Under his leadership, Malawi’s men’s national team reached the finals of the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier, while grassroots development, particularly in youth and women’s cricket, gained significant momentum.
The Singapore Cricket Association paid tribute to Menon, saying, “Arjun was more than a coach; he was a mentor, leader, and an embodiment of Singaporean values of excellence, humility, and service.”
As police investigations continue, tributes have poured in from across the cricketing world. Menon is being remembered as a devoted sportsman, passionate educator, and visionary leader whose contributions to cricket in Africa and beyond will not be forgotten.
