The Adesina-led National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has raised concerns over what it described as two worrisome developments that threaten the party’s integrity and cohesion.
In a statement issued on Monday, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Alfa Mohammed, condemned the growing coalition of disenchanted politicians allegedly seeking to remove President Bola Tinubu from office without offering a clear and viable alternative for national development.
“The influx of certain aggrieved politicians into a desperate coalition aimed at ‘sending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu back to Lagos’ without articulating a credible alternative roadmap for Nigeria’s transformation is concerning,” Mohammed stated.
He emphasised that the SDP was neither for sale nor lease, and firmly rejected any association with anti-government alliances that lacked a constructive vision for the country’s progress.
The Adesina-led NEC reaffirmed its commitment to engaging the federal government constructively and holding it accountable, while distancing itself from any group allegedly working to undermine the Tinubu administration and the electoral mandate of the 2023 general elections.

The committee further urged SDP leaders nationwide to resist any attempts to usurp their positions and to report such cases to the appropriate authorities. It also encouraged party members and supporters to remain calm, assuring them that efforts to secure full recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were ongoing.
“We urge SDP leaders at all levels to resist any unlawful attempts to displace them, to report such incidents appropriately, and to keep the party’s doors open to well-intentioned new members,” Mohammed added.
The NEC also condemned what it termed the illegal replacement of duly recognised state executives by the coalition group, in collusion with a rival faction of the party.
The committee likened the current developments to the 2019 internal crisis, when defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Prof Jerry Gana, attempted to seize control of the SDP’s leadership. That episode, it recalled, led to the resignation of the then National Chairman, Olu Falae, and triggered protracted legal battles within the party.
