The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned a state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre at the Oladipo Alayande School of Science, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Named in honour of Mrs Onikepo Akande, a distinguished daughter of the state and former Minister of Industry, the centre is designed to provide digital training programmes that will equip women and young people with competitive skills in the global tech space.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Senator Tinubu highlighted the importance of the initiative in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises economic diversification through industrialisation, digitisation, the creative sector, manufacturing, and innovation.

She noted that the ICT centre forms part of broader efforts to ensure inclusive access to technology-driven opportunities, particularly for underserved populations. “This centre is more than a building,” she remarked.
“It is a promise to our women and youth — a promise of opportunity, advancement, and a better future.”
Senator Tinubu also announced that ten additional ICT centres will be commissioned in various states in the coming months as part of ongoing efforts to deepen Nigeria’s digital economy.
The initiative seeks to address the digital divide while empowering communities through skill acquisition and capacity development in technology. It also reinforces the government’s commitment to enhancing innovation, job creation, and socio-economic progress through education and technology.
The event was attended by key stakeholders, government officials, and community leaders, who commended the initiative as a timely intervention that would contribute significantly to national development.
