Salem Baptist International School has emerged as the winner of the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) Bible Quiz for primary schools, held on Thursday in Lagos.

The quiz is part of BSN’s mission to promote early engagement with scripture and instill godly values in children.

The competition took place at the Salvation Army, Igbobi Corps, Onipanu, and featured six finalist schools selected from an initial pool of 17.

Represented by Muritala Desmond and Taiwo Ewaoluwa, Salem Baptist International School secured first place after a keenly contested final.

Graine Royal School and Angels on Mission were awarded second and third place, respectively, while other finalists included God’s Glory Abide Nursery and Primary School (4th place), Tane Crescent (5th), and De-Future Hope School (6th).

Speaking to journalists at the event, Taiwo Ewaoluwa of Salem Baptist International School expressed gratitude to the organisers, saying:
“We are so happy to win, and we’re grateful for this platform to express ourselves and deepen our knowledge of the Bible.”

The General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of BSN, Pastor Samuel Sanusi, was represented at the event by the Society’s Production and Programmes Manager, Mrs Grace Benjamin. She emphasised the need to nurture spiritual values in children from a young age.

“We want our children to revive godly values. With the growing moral decline in society, reading and understanding the Bible helps children to know God’s will, guiding them to live accordingly,” Sanusi said.

He noted that the 17 participating schools answered questions from the BSN publication My 100 Best Loved Bible Stories during the preliminary rounds, from which the top-performing schools advanced to the finals.

Sanusi also appealed to well-meaning Nigerians and organisations to support the initiative, which he said would allow for broader participation and more substantial rewards for pupils.

“As we catch them young, we help them grow into morally upright individuals who can resist social vices and make a positive impact on society,” he added.

The BSN, he affirmed, remains dedicated to advancing biblical literacy and spiritual development across all age groups. He also highlighted the organisation’s role in Bible translation, with over 29 Nigerian language versions completed to date.
