The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr Kayode Opeifa, has announced that the suspended Warri-Itakpe Train Service, halted due to multiple engine failures, will resume operations on Wednesday, 30 April 2025.

Dr Opeifa apologised to passengers, stakeholders, and the wider public whose livelihoods were affected by the suspension. He further explained that the interruption was necessary to enable NRC engineers to address the technical issues and enhance operational capacity, redundancy, and customer service delivery.

Following a critical review of the operational and technical conditions, he confirmed that services would recommence on 30 April 2025.

“Our esteemed passengers are kindly informed that the Warri-Itakpe Train Service will now operate six days a week, from Friday to Wednesday,” he stated.

“Starting Thursday, 1 May 2025, the service will be suspended every Thursday to allow for track and rolling stock maintenance along the route.”

Dr Opeifa expressed appreciation for the patience, understanding, and cooperation of Nigerians, passengers, and stakeholders during the disruption, emphasising the NRC’s commitment to improved service delivery.

He also reminded passengers that while most had received full refunds during the suspension, those who opted to retain their tickets could revalidate them for any service day of their choice via the NRC’s e-ticketing platform. Customers with issues were advised to contact the NRC ticket line on 09031800517.

“We deeply regret any inconvenience caused by the suspension and assure our valued customers and stakeholders of our commitment to providing excellent service going forward,” Opeifa concluded.
