As part of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2025, the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) has commissioned a crèche and nursery school, along with shuttle tricycles and a shelter stop, within Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna.
Speaking at the inauguration, NAOWA President Mrs. Bilkisu Ibrahim represented by the association’s Deputy President, Mrs. Mernan Oluyede described the initiative as a significant stride toward enhancing the welfare and early education of children in military communities.

The project, spearheaded by Mrs. Ada Saraso, Chairperson of NAOWA 1 Division Chapter, includes two fully furnished classroom blocks, a playground, and other child-friendly facilities designed to promote a safe and conducive learning environment.
Also launched were two shuttle tricycles and a dedicated shelter to support pupil transportation within the cantonment.

Beyond the educational initiative, NAOWA also extended humanitarian support to 120 widows of fallen soldiers and conducted a medical outreach benefitting over 300 individuals, including wounded personnel and expectant mothers.
Reaffirming the association’s commitment to service, unity, and family welfare, Oluyede thanked the Chief of Army Staff for his ongoing support of NAOWA’s activities.
In her remarks, Mrs. Saraso described the event as a milestone in the association’s continued efforts to support the families of Nigerian Army personnel. She commended Mrs. Oluyede’s leadership and reiterated NAOWA’s mission to uphold values of compassion, service, and educational empowerment.
“We envisioned a learning environment that upholds dignity and care for our children,” Saraso said. “The shuttle tricycles and shelter stop are designed to facilitate safe and reliable transport for pupils and the wider military community. We plan to expand this system in the future.”
She also expressed appreciation to the NAOWA President for her leadership, and to her husband, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, for his unwavering support throughout the project’s implementation.
The event concluded with the formal unveiling of the new school blocks, tricycles, and shuttle shelter.
