Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Benin, Amb. Mopelola Adeola-Ibrahim, has reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to promoting peace and democratic stability across West Africa.
She stated this during an Eid-el-Kabir visit to 260 Nigerian troops of Operation Atileyin Alaafia II stationed at the Togbin Military Base in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
Adeola-Ibrahim commended the troops for their professionalism, discipline and sacrifice, describing their deployment as a reflection of Nigeria’s commitment to regional peace and security.
“Your presence here is not just a military deployment; it reflects Nigeria’s longstanding commitment to regional peace, stability and brotherhood,” she said.

She praised the troops for contributing to the peaceful inauguration of Benin Republic’s President, Romuald Wadagni, noting that their vigilance helped sustain security during the democratic transition.
The ambassador-designate acknowledged the sacrifices of the soldiers, especially during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, assuring them that Nigerians appreciate their service and patriotism.
“You represent the very best of Nigeria — resilient, courageous, disciplined and selfless,” she added.
She also urged the troops to remain vigilant and continue upholding the image and honour of Nigeria.
Responding, the Commanding Officer of the troops, Lt.-Col. Ambrose Ikoro, thanked the envoy for the visit and reaffirmed the military’s commitment to regional peace and security.
