Niger State Unveils Plans for FIFA-Standard 25,000-Capacity Stadium

The Niger State Government in North Central Nigeria has announced plans to construct a 25,000-capacity stadium built to FIFA standards, reaffirming its commitment to enhancing sporting activities across the state.

Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Honourable Yahya Ibrahim Gulbin Boka, made the announcement during a meeting with chairpersons of various sports associations in the state. He was represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Nuhu Garba Ngaski.

The commissioner revealed that construction would commence as soon as the necessary approvals are secured. He assured that the ministry is fully dedicated to advancing the state’s sporting landscape.

He highlighted that Governor Umar Mohammed Bago is taking deliberate and strategic steps to reposition the sports sector, with a focus on creating meaningful opportunities for youth engagement.

”Since assuming office, Governor Bago has consistently demonstrated a strong resolve to develop modern sports infrastructure capable of placing Niger State on both the national and international sporting map”, the commissioner said.

He expressed gratitude to the governor for his unwavering support of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, applauding his commitment to completing the Ahmadu Bahago Sports Complex and initiating the new stadium project.

The commissioner noted that the meeting with the sports association leaders was timely and addressed critical challenges facing the state’s sports development. He reiterated the ministry’s full commitment to revitalising all sporting disciplines in Niger State.

“Our vision is to foster an environment that supports and empowers athletes to thrive at local, national, and international levels. I encourage all residents of Niger State to support the ministry’s drive to advance sports,” he stated.

He further emphasised the ministry’s mission to identify and nurture talent, promote excellence, and establish solid infrastructure to support sports associations across the state.

“We must upgrade and maintain our facilities, which are vital for effective training and competitive success,” he added.

Honourable Gulbin Boka also acknowledged the valuable role played by the sports association chairpersons in promoting sports in the state and assured them of continued collaboration and institutional backing.

Also speaking at the event, Chairperson of the Special Sports Association, Amina Jummai Gimba, commended the ministry for its efforts to transform Niger State into a centre of sporting excellence. She noted that the ministry’s current commitment would enable more youths to actively engage in sports, reducing social vices and boosting productivity.

Gimba added that her association was working closely with the ministry on ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening partnerships and promoting sports development in the state.

Several chairpersons who spoke during the meeting expressed appreciation to the ministry and encouraged it to sustain its momentum in advancing sports across Niger State.
