Major General Babatunde Alaya has officially assumed office as the Director General of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), located in Kaduna.

Prior to this appointment, Alaya served as the Commander of the Nigerian Army Command Engineering Depot. He succeeds Major General Anaedi Edet, who has been redeployed to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre in Abuja.

A member of the 43rd Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Alaya expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the Chief of Army Staff for entrusting him with the leadership of the corporation.

He commended his predecessor, Major General Edet, for notable achievements during his tenure, including the commencement of ammunition production and improvements across DICON’s departments.

Alaya pledged to build on the foundation laid by Edet, emphasising his commitment to enhancing the corporation’s output in line with the needs of the military and other security agencies. He also called for the continued cooperation and support of the entire workforce.

In his farewell remarks, Major General Edet urged staff to support the incoming DG wholeheartedly. Reflecting on his time in office since July 2023, he noted that DICON’s manufacturing capabilities had significantly advanced under his leadership, especially in the production of critical defence equipment.
