Major General Abdul Ibrahim has officially assumed office as the 33rd Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), taking over from Major General John Ochai, who has been redeployed to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre in Abuja.

A member of the 39th Regular Course of the NDA, Major General Ibrahim previously served as the Commander of the Infantry Corps in the Nigerian Army.

In his remarks during the handover ceremony, Ibrahim described his appointment as Commandant as a great honour and a significant privilege.

“I want to thank General Ochai for all he has done. I believe we can all agree that there have been notable improvements under his leadership,” he stated.

“I appreciate his contributions to the Academy and the team I am about to lead. I look forward to working collaboratively with all of you.”

The new Commandant pledged to lead the institution with fairness and without bias, affirming that merit, competence, and dedication would be acknowledged and rewarded.

“I will not tolerate indiscipline or unacceptable conduct. I will not turn a blind eye to such issues, and I hope we can all work together to uphold high standards,” he emphasised.

Earlier, the outgoing Commandant, Major General Ochai, expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve at the helm of the NDA. He also called on the Academy community to extend their full support to his successor to ensure continued progress.

A regimental parade was held in honour of the outgoing Commandant.
