Military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani said the deployment was precautionary and limited in scope. “We’re only at the borderline area in a defensive manner to prevent attacks against civilians and very strategic important points,” he told reporters during an online briefing on Tuesday.

Defence Minister Israel Katz confirmed that he had authorised the army to advance and assume control of further positions inside Lebanon. The move followed rocket fire into Israel late on Sunday, which Hezbollah said was in response to joint U.S. and Israeli strikes targeting Iran.
Israeli forces have maintained a presence in five positions in southern Lebanon since November 2024, amid heightened regional tensions. The latest deployment underscores fears of a broader escalation as cross-border hostilities intensify.
