The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, celebrated the 2026 Eid al-Adha with frontline troops of the 8 Division and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Sokoto State, commending their sacrifices and dedication to national security.
The luncheon was held at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Tureta in Sokoto State and was organised to boost the morale of troops and honour personnel deployed on the front lines away from their families.
The Chief of Army Staff, represented by the Commander Infantry Corps, Major General Godwin Mutkut, appreciated the troops for their discipline, resilience and unwavering commitment to duty.
He described the sacrifices of the troops as the “backbone of the nation’s security,” stressing that their dedication continues to safeguard Nigeria’s peace and stability.
According to him, the celebration reflected the unity within the Nigerian Army, noting that the institution stands together not only during combat operations but also in moments of celebration.
“The luncheon is a reminder that the Nigerian Army stands together, not only in battle but also in celebration,” he stated.
He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strategic leadership and continuous support to the Nigerian Army.
Lieutenant General Shaibu assured Nigerians of the military’s commitment to protecting the country’s territorial integrity and ensuring a secure environment for economic growth.
In his welcome remarks, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Bemgba Koughna, said the Eid celebration symbolises the values of sacrifice, obedience, and faith that align with the military profession.
He praised troops for their operational successes against terrorist networks and prompt responses to communal tensions within the Division’s Area of Responsibility.
Major General Koughna also appreciated the COAS for providing combat support, reinforcements, and prioritising troop welfare, urging soldiers to remain resolute and continue to justify the confidence reposed in them by Nigerians.
