Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Salma Dogo-Garba, responsible for Zone 5, which covers Edo and Delta States, has ordered a large-scale deployment of personnel to places of worship ahead of the Eid-El-Kabir celebrations in the zone.
This was stated in a press release by SP Tijani Momoh, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO),n Abuja on Thursday.
Dogo-Garba also directed the deployment of officers to key linking and exit routes, highways, motor parks, critical infrastructure, and other vulnerable locations, with the aim of ensuring a smooth and peaceful celebration.

He noted that this action aligns with the directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to all Commissioners of Police across State Commands, as well as their supervising Assistant Inspectors-General, to guarantee public safety and security at Eid prayer grounds, recreational centres, and other sensitive areas.
“In efforts to secure a trouble-free celebration, the Commissioners of Police in Delta and Edo must ensure visible policing, effective crowd control, and the enforcement of robust anti-crime prevention measures to safeguard lives and property.
“They are also expected to bolster security along all connecting roads, entry and exit points, highways, city centres, and other strategic locations within their jurisdictions.
“I am aware of the increased traffic volume due to ongoing flyover construction within the metropolis and the heightened travel during the Sallah period.
“As such, a substantial deployment of personnel for traffic management is necessary to alleviate congestion during the Eid-El-Kabir festivities,” he added.
The AIG further cautioned police officers to conduct themselves professionally while performing their constitutional duties.
He also urged members of the public, particularly travellers and road users, to cooperate fully with police officers deployed across highways and duty posts within the zone.
Dogo-Garba extended warm felicitations to all Muslim faithful across the zone, wishing them a joyous and peaceful Eid-El-Adha celebration scheduled for Friday.
“Once again, I wish the Muslim community and all residents in the zone a happy Eid-El-Kabir celebration.
“I also urge everyone to remain security conscious, vigilant, and to report any suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station,” he concluded.
