Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has been laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
His body was interred at approximately 5:50 p.m. on Tuesday, within the grounds of his private residence, in accordance with Islamic rites. The Janazah (funeral) prayer was led by the Chief Imam of Katsina State.
The solemn burial ceremony was attended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and several other high-ranking dignitaries.
Afterwards the Chief of Defence Staff read the late Retired General Buhari’s citation at the grave side of the former president, while another short islamic prayers was said again concluding the entire process of the funeral rites of Muhammadu Buhari, whose body was committed to the mother earth at about 5:55pm Tuesday July 15th,2025.

The former president’s remains were received with full military honours, including a traditional twenty-one-gun salute. Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, read Buhari’s official citation before the military-led procession guided the coffin to the gravesite.
Earlier in the day, the late president’s body had arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina, having been flown from London, where he passed away on Sunday, 13th July 2025, at the age of 82, following a brief illness.
His residence in Daura was filled with mourners including family members, friends, and well-wishers who had gathered to pay their final respects.
