CITAD Unveils 'Reportrix App' for Accountability, Rights Protection

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has unveiled a new digital platform known as Reportrix, a unified reporting application designed to streamline citizen reporting across multiple sectors.

The platform was launched on 19 November 2025 at the organisation’s headquarters in Kano.

Reportrix consolidates four of CITAD’s major reporting tools gender-based violence (GBV), misinformation, digital rights violations, and abandoned public projects, into a single, user-friendly system. According to CITAD, the platform is aimed at making incident reporting more accessible, efficient, and secure for Nigerians.

Speaking at the launch, Executive Director Yunusa Zakari Ya’u described the innovation as “a powerful civic technology that puts justice, dignity, and accountability within reach for every citizen, no matter where they live.”

Ya’u noted that CITAD’s previous platforms had recorded notable successes, including exposing misinformation, supporting survivors of GBV, safeguarding digital rights, and drawing attention to neglected government projects. However, the separation of these tools often made access difficult.

“A person can suffer multiple violations at once,” he said. “A survivor of abuse may also have her digital rights violated when her story is posted online without consent. Reportrix brings all these issues under one unified system.”

The new app incorporates an integrated dashboard, multilingual support, interactive mapping, educational materials, and enhanced data protection—particularly for sensitive GBV and digital rights cases. CITAD staff said the simplified interface enables even users with limited digital literacy to file reports, upload evidence, and track progress.

“This is more than an app,”a CITAD programme officer said.“It is a national tool for empowerment.”

Reportrix also features an improved “Report a Project” module, allowing citizens to provide photo and GPS evidence of poorly executed or abandoned public projects. CITAD said it will continue recognising exceptional citizen reporters whose contributions help strengthen governance.

“Accountability grows stronger when citizens participate,” Ya’u added.

During the event, CITAD urged Nigerians to download the app and use it to demand justice, transparency, and good governance. The organisation also called on government agencies, civil society organisations, and the media to collaborate in responding to reported cases.

“We all share the responsibility of fighting harmful practices and amplifying citizens’ voices,” Ya’u said. “The media in particular plays a crucial role in ensuring visibility and public awareness of Reportrix.”

CITAD reaffirmed its commitment to promoting digital technologies that enhance, rather than undermine, human rights.

“Our vision is a Nigeria where no abuse online or offline goes unheard,” Ya’u declared. “Reportrix is a step toward that vision, and we invite all Nigerians to join us in using technology to create a more just and accountable country.”
