As children across the globe mark their special day, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on adults to protect and empower the younger generation as a means of securing the nation’s future.
In her message commemorating the occasion, the First Lady stressed the importance of eliminating bullying in all its forms, in line with this year’s theme.
“As we celebrate this year’s Children’s Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings and affection to every child across our beloved country. The theme, ‘Stand Up: Building a Bullying-Free Generation’, reflects our collective duty to safeguard and uplift the young minds and hearts that embody the hope of Nigeria’s future.
“Bullying, whether it occurs in schools, communities, or online, inflicts deep and lasting harm on a child’s emotional, social, and academic well-being,” she warned.
She emphasised that every child deserves the opportunity to flourish in a nurturing and secure environment.

The First Lady also encouraged parents and guardians to instil in their children values of love, kindness, and mutual care.
“As a mother, I appeal to all Nigerians to take a firm stance against bullying. Let us raise children who understand that true strength lies in empathy, and that real leadership begins with caring for one another. Happy Children’s Day,” she concluded.
Children’s Day, observed globally on 27 May, is designated by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to honour and celebrate children worldwide.
In Nigeria, it is celebrated across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, and is marked as a public holiday for schoolchildren.
