Ahead of the premiere of the 10th edition of the Big Brother Naija reality show, former housemate Tolanibaj has offered essential advice to prospective contestants.

She cautioned aspirants to remember that fellow housemates are not necessarily their friends, and urged them to remain authentic throughout their stay in the house. She also encouraged them to maintain a good appearance and have a clear post-show strategy.

In a video message shared via her TikTok page, Tolanibaj said:

“Here are a few things to know before entering the Big Brother house:

“First, be yourself. Don’t go in and be dull. Nigerians won’t appreciate it, and it may not work in your favour.

“Second, dress up every day. Although the house may start to feel like just a regular home, it’s not. You might wonder, ‘Why dress up? It’s just a house.’ But no, remember it’s a show and also a platform to attract fashion brands. Ladies, do your makeup daily. Gentlemen, look sharp too. Even though outfits will be provided for Saturday night parties, bring your own clothes as backup, in case you don’t like what’s given.

“Third, understand that your housemates are not your friends. Just because you live together for one, two or three months doesn’t mean you are friends. You are colleagues team members. If genuine friendships emerge after the show, that’s a blessing. But if you sense a change in attitude once you’re out, don’t take it personally you were never really friends. Return to the real friends and family who know and support you.

“Fourth, have a plan for life after the show. Once the show ends, the organisers will move on, and you’ll need to take charge of your own future. If you intend to use prize money to start life, understand that it doesn’t come in full immediately. Even if you win ₦10 million, ₦6 million or ₦20 million, disbursements could be weekly say, ₦200,000 to ₦500,000. So plan ahead. Don’t rely solely on the money.

“Fifth, the real show begins after Big Brother ends. Whether you’re evicted or not, life continues. If you win, that’s great. But if you don’t, it’s not the end of the world. It’s less about how far you go in the game and more about what you do with the platform afterwards.”
