U.S. Olympic sprinter Fred Kerley has been provisionally suspended for whereabouts failures, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said on Tuesday.
Kerley, 29, who won silver in the 100 metres at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and bronze in Paris 2024, faces sanction after committing three whereabouts failures within a 12-month period a combination of missed tests or filing failures under anti-doping rules.
The former world 100m champion said he would contest the charge, arguing that one of the alleged failures should be dismissed due to “no negligence” on his part or shortcomings by the doping control officer.

Athletes in registered testing pools are required to provide accurate location information and be available for testing during a specified one-hour window each day. Three failures in a year can result in a ban of up to two years.
Kerley has endured a turbulent 2025, including legal troubles and his withdrawal from the U.S. Olympic trials in June. The AIU did not disclose the competition dates the missed tests might affect.
