Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, received the iconic English Premier League (EPL) trophy on Sunday at the Lagos House, Marina, in a symbolic event that celebrated Nigeria’s deep passion for football and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to sports development.
The trophy was formally presented to the governor by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Guinness Nigeria PLC, Mr Girish Sharma. The event was part of a special promotional tour designed to bring the excitement of the Premier League closer to Nigerian fans and strengthen the connection between global football and local communities.
Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed delight at the visit, describing the event as a celebration of sports, unity, and the immense potential of Nigerian youths.
“This trophy tour is not just about football; it is a reminder of the power of sports to transform lives, unite communities, and inspire the younger generation,” Sanwo-Olu said. “Lagos remains committed to investing in sports infrastructure and programmes that support talent development and empower our youths.”
