Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has paid N4.5 billion in gratuities and other entitlements to civil servants over the past year.
The governor’s spokesperson, Mr Dauda Iliya, disclosed this in an interview in Maiduguri while highlighting the administration’s achievements from 2024 to date.
According to Iliya, the Zulum administration has cleared all outstanding gratuities and entitlements owed to retired Permanent Secretaries up to December 2024. The total amount paid to settle the arrears for these senior officials was N1.49 billion.
In addition to that, the state government has been paying N200 million every month to other retirees.

“The governor has pledged to clear all outstanding pensions and gratuities of civil servants before the end of his tenure,” Iliya stated.
On post-conflict recovery, Iliya said the administration, in partnership with the Federal Government and other agencies, had repatriated 7,790 Nigerian refugees from Baga Sola in Chad Republic to Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Similar repatriation efforts were also carried out for refugees in Diffa and Bosso, Niger Republic, who were returned to Malamfatori, the headquarters of Abadam Local Government Area.
“All returnees were provided with food and non-food items as part of their resettlement support,” he added.
