The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has apologised for the delay in conducting the English Language Paper 2 of the ongoing 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The paper, originally scheduled for earlier in the day, was eventually held on Wednesday evening.

In a statement issued by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of WAEC’s Public Affairs Department, the council said it faced significant challenges while trying to prevent exam paper leakage.

“While ensuring the security and integrity of our examination, we encountered considerable difficulties, mostly due to our commitment to stopping any form of leakage,” the statement read.

WAEC acknowledged the inconvenience caused to candidates, schools, and parents, and offered a sincere apology.

The council said that although it achieved its aim of safeguarding the examination’s integrity, this effort affected the smooth and timely running of the exam.

“Despite our best efforts, we faced logistical problems, security issues, and socio-cultural factors that disrupted our operations,” the statement added.

WAEC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards in examination conduct and promised to continue promoting academic excellence.
