Nigeria has officially handed over the Chairmanship of the Rabat Process to Switzerland, with the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernad Doro, reaffirming the country’s commitment to support the incoming leadership.
Speaking at the conclusion of the two-day Euro-Africa conference in Abuja, Dr Doro highlighted that Nigeria’s tenure was guided by the Cadiz Action Plan and focused on practical, evidence-based dialogue addressing migration challenges.
“The discussions highlighted how climate change and environmental degradation are increasingly shaping our mobility patterns. Displacement dynamics and reintegration outcomes. This exchange reinforced the need for forward-looking integrated approaches that link climate adaptation, resilience, and migration governance,” she said.
Dr Doro commended the Rabat Process Secretariat, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), and partner countries for their engagement, adding, “Together we have strengthened our dialogue and reaffirmed our shared commitment to managing migration in a humane, evidence-based, and sustainable manner.”
Taking over on behalf of Switzerland, Ambassador Patrick Egloff praised Nigeria’s leadership, noting the process has “provided clear direction and significantly strengthened the momentum of our cooperation” and reaffirming the value of the Rabat Process as a regional dialogue rooted in trust and partnership.
