The National Sports Commission (NSC) has extended heartfelt condolences to Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi following the death of his father, Mr Sunday Ndidi.
Mr Sunday Ndidi reportedly died in a road accident on Tuesday, prompting an outpouring of sympathy from the Nigerian football community.
In a statement signed by Kehinde Ajayi, Director of Information and Public Relations at the NSC, Director-General Bukola Olopade described the loss as “shocking” and noted the close relationship between Ndidi and his father, who played a pivotal role in shaping his football career and personal discipline.
Olopade highlighted that Ndidi’s dedication to the Super Eagles and his success in European club football reflect the values instilled by his parents.
“On behalf of NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko and the entire Nigerian sports family, we express our heartfelt condolences to Wilfred Ndidi and his family for this tragic loss,” Olopade said.
He added: “We know how close Wilfred was to his father and the vital role his father played in his journey. His patriotic service to Nigeria, both for the Super Eagles and in European football, is a testament to the upbringing provided by his parents.”
Olopade urged the sports community to remember the Ndidi family in their prayers and pledged that the NSC would work closely with the Nigeria Football Federation to offer necessary support during this difficult time.
