The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has awarded ₦531,000 each to 531 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), alongside business starter packs, as part of its initiative to promote self-reliance among Nigerian youth.
The items were presented on Thursday in Abuja by the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Ltd, Mr Bayo Ojulari, who was represented by Mr Roland Ewubare, the Group Chief Operating Officer.
Mr Ojulari stated that the initiative reflects NNPC Ltd’s commitment to youth development and national progress. He described the gesture as both a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future and a demonstration of the company’s core values of integrity and excellence.
Commending the corps members, he noted that they had been chosen from a highly competitive selection process.
“You are exceptional candidates. We are proud to support your journey,” he said.
He urged the beneficiaries to establish purposeful ventures and maintain high standards of conduct.
“Use these resources wisely. They are seeds for your growth and transformation,” he advised.
The programme is a collaborative effort involving the NNPC Ltd Foundation, NYSC, Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), and Kudimata Nigeria Ltd. Its primary aim is to enhance livelihoods through financial empowerment.
Mrs Emmanuella Arukwe, Managing Director of the NNPC Ltd Foundation, stated that the project began with a focus on financial literacy.
“Since August 2023, more than 800,000 corps members have taken part,” she said.
She explained that the training covered areas such as branding, funding, and project viability. The 531 successful candidates scored a minimum of 70 per cent to qualify after a rigorous selection process.
“Even those not selected today have acquired skills to pursue loans and grants. This is a long-term investment in economic resilience,” she added.
Founder of Kudimata, Ms Kathleen Erhimu, described the initiative as a milestone.
“We are celebrating purpose and transformation. Our aim is to equip young people for financial independence,” she said.

“This will go a long way in helping beneficiaries realise their business aspirations,” he said.
Registrar-General of the CAC, Mr Hussaini Magaji, represented by Hajiya Amina Fika, congratulated the recipients.
“Your success is a testament to your resilience and creativity,” he said, encouraging them to formally register their businesses.
“Make use of our online platforms to access funding and build sustainable enterprises,” he urged.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr Ozigi Faith, described the programme as transformative.
“This is our first step towards financial freedom. Let us stay focused and make the most of it,” he said.
