The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, on Thursday received a high-level delegation from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

The delegation, led by UNESCO’s Secretary-General, Dr Olagunju Idowu, visited NITDA to strengthen collaboration in key areas including Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and youth development. The partnership aligns with Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda and the broader goal of achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Inuwa noted that the engagement was in furtherance of NITDA’s mandate to foster digital inclusion, enhance public sector innovation, and equip the Nigerian workforce for the evolving digital economy.

The visit also comes on the heels of UNESCO’s recent AI and digital governance training for Nigerian civil servants. The initiative was designed to enhance digital project management capacities across ministries and improve understanding of critical governance elements such as cybersecurity, data protection and ethical AI use.

Dr Idowu emphasised UNESCO’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in building a robust digital ecosystem, particularly through knowledge exchange, policy development, and inclusive capacity-building efforts.

The collaboration between NITDA and UNESCO is expected to produce frameworks that will foster innovation, create employment opportunities for young Nigerians, and ensure that technology becomes a key driver of national development.

Both parties reiterated their shared vision to accelerate Nigeria’s digital future through strategic partnerships, effective policy implementation, and inclusive technology-driven growth.
