Nigerian Senate Declares Ondo South Senatorial Seat Vacant

The President of the Nigerian Senate,  Godswill Akpabio, has declared the Ondo South Senatorial District seat vacant.

Akpabio made the announcement during plenary on Tuesday saying the seat became vacant following the appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who hitherto occupied the seat, as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

The President of the Senate therefore called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a bye election in the next 30 days to fill the existing vacancy in line with extant laws.

Akpabio also directed the Clerk to the National Assembly to transmit the resolution of the Senate to the Independent National Electoral Commission for urgent action.
