The Cross River House of Assembly has suspended Ms Theresa Ushie, Chairman of Bekwarra Local Government Council, for a period of three months following allegations of misconduct and corrupt practices.
The decision was made after the Assembly considered a resolution passed by the Bekwarra Local Government Legislative Council on Tuesday.
A committee has also been established to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations against Ms Ushie.
It is worth noting that three months ago, councillors had attempted to impeach the chairman on grounds of corruption, misconduct, abuse of power, among other issues.
During the debate on the matter, the Speaker, Mr Elvert Ayambem, stated that the suspension was in line with Section 14(3) of the Cross River Local Government Laws, 2025.
