Nigeria’s Flying Eagles and Morocco’s U-20 team played out a goalless draw in their Group B fixture at the ongoing 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Sunday at the 30 June Air Defence Stadium in Cairo, Egypt.

Both teams, having won their opening matches, went into the encounter with high stakes, but neither could break the deadlock in what proved to be a tightly contested affair. The result leaves both sides with four points from two matches, with Morocco sitting atop the group on goal difference.

Flying Eagles defender Daniel Bameyi, who captained the side, was named Man of the Match following a commanding performance in Nigeria’s backline. Speaking after the match, Bameyi said:

“We would have loved to win, but a draw against a strong team like Morocco is still a good result. We’ll go all out against Kenya to seal qualification.”

Nigeria began their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Tunisia, while Morocco edged Kenya 3-2 in their opener. In Sunday’s other Group B encounter, Tunisia bounced back to defeat Kenya 3-1, reviving their hopes of progressing to the quarter-finals.

The Flying Eagles will now shift focus to their final group match against Kenya on Wednesday, 7 May. A draw will be sufficient for Nigeria to secure passage to the knockout stages.

Head coach Ladan Bosso praised his team’s discipline and expressed confidence ahead of their final fixture:

“We’ve shown defensive resilience today, and I’m pleased with the boys’ effort. We’ll prepare thoroughly for the Kenya match and aim for maximum points.”
