In a bid to advance innovation in space technology, the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Ltd will launch the second phase of its Accelerator Programme on 18 July 2025 in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.
According to a statement signed by the Agency’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Aisha Bantam, the flagship initiative aims to support start-ups using satellite and space-based technologies to tackle local and global challenges across key sectors.
With the theme “Innovation in Orbit: Empowering the Next Generation of Space-Tech Entrepreneurs”, the 2025 cohort will focus on driving innovation in agriculture, healthcare, climate resilience, education, robotics, logistics, and digital infrastructure.
The programme seeks to foster collaboration between industry leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs, thereby propelling Nigeria’s digital economy into a new era.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Programme Coordinator Mrs Maureen Nzekwe revealed that the inaugural cohort attracted 281 applications, with 35 start-ups selected to proceed to the final stage, scheduled for October 2025.
She also highlighted the growing number of female-led ventures, underscoring NIGCOMSAT’s commitment to gender inclusion and the empowerment of women in science, technology, and innovation.
In her remarks, Mrs Jane Idehen, Managing Director/CEO of NIGCOMSAT Ltd, emphasised the programme’s strategic significance: “Placing space technology in the hands of Nigeria’s brightest innovators is a bold step towards sustainable national development. This accelerator is not only a platform for nurturing viable tech solutions but also a catalyst for redefining Nigeria’s role in the global space economy.”
The programme will officially commence with onboarding activities on 20 June 2025, followed by an intensive schedule of capacity-building workshops, mentorship, product refinement, and business development sessions, culminating in investor matchmaking opportunities.

A major highlight will be the Demo Day in October, where selected start-ups will present their solutions to an audience of investors, policymakers, and global stakeholders—providing a critical platform for visibility, partnerships, and potential investment.
The NIGCOMSAT Accelerator Programme is delivered in collaboration with strategic partners including the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), private sector experts, investors, and innovation ecosystem stakeholders.
These partnerships collectively position the initiative as a national launchpad for pioneering ideas and entrepreneurial growth within Nigeria’s emerging space-tech sector.
