The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has announced plans to rehabilitate over 300 households displaced by a recent windstorm in Garba Chede community, Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Hajia Batulu Isa, Deputy Director of Relief and Mediation at the commission, made this known following an assessment visit by NEDC officials to the affected community.
Isa assured victims that the commission would do all within its capacity to provide relief and restore their livelihoods as quickly as possible.

She stated that the assessment team would submit a comprehensive report to the commission to facilitate prompt intervention, including the provision of food, non-food items, and building materials.
“We have been delegated by the NEDC to visit this community and assess the extent of the damage caused by the windstorm.
We have collected the necessary data and will report back to the commission for immediate action.
I want to assure you that the commission will respond swiftly by supplying food items, non-food items, and building materials to the affected households.
The leadership of the commission, under Alhaji Mohammed Alkali, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, is deeply concerned about this unfortunate situation,” she said.
Commenting on the tragedy, Mr Hashimu Abdulkadir, one of the community’s traditional leaders, confirmed that six people lost their lives while around 30 others sustained varying degrees of injury.
He expressed appreciation to the NEDC for its prompt response and appealed to other organisations and individuals particularly the Taraba State Government and political leaders to also extend support to the affected residents.
