Ministry Bans Commercial Motorcycles on Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway

The Federal Ministry of Works has banned the use of commercial motorcycles and tricycles on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as part of measures to protect the newly completed road infrastructure from misuse and premature deterioration.

The directive, which takes effect this week, was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olufemi Dare.

According to Dare, the restriction is aimed at preserving the integrity of the superhighway and ensuring its long-term sustainability.

He explained that the ministry had introduced the measures to safeguard the road and maintain its world-class standard for the benefit of all road users.

The controller also announced a ban on the indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles along the coastal highway and on bridges across Lagos State.

In addition, the ministry prohibited the indiscriminate dumping of refuse along highway corridors, describing the practice as unacceptable and harmful to road infrastructure.

Dare warned that violators of the new directives would face strict enforcement, adding that the ministry had already installed signposts along the highway to inform motorists and other road users of the restrictions.

He disclosed that task force personnel would be deployed to strategic locations to monitor compliance and enforce the regulations.

Describing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a world-class infrastructure, Dare stressed the need for collective responsibility in protecting the facility from abuse.

He urged motorists and other road users to comply with the directives in the interest of public safety, noting that proper maintenance of the highway would prolong its lifespan and preserve its value for Nigerians.
