President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated the newly constructed 15-kilometre A2–Pai Town Road in the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive infrastructure development.
The road, which links Pai Town to the A2 junction on the Abuja–Lokoja expressway, is one of several completed or ongoing projects across the FCT’s six Area Councils since May 29, 2023, totalling 150 kilometres.
Speaking at the commissioning on Monday, President Tinubu said the road exemplifies the Renewed Hope agenda by opening up access to agriculture, trade, education, and mobility in rural communities.
“Infrastructure means nothing if it is not developed for the benefit of the people. The true value of this progress lies in how it lifts lives and expands opportunity,” he said.
The President praised the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for prioritising underserved areas and delivering key projects that improve livelihoods.
“You are doing commendable work in rural communities. Development must be balanced and inclusive, and this road represents both a symbolic and strategic achievement,” Tinubu added.
He encouraged the people of Pai to take ownership of the road, calling it a bridge to a better life for farmers, traders, students, and young people.
On his way to Pai from Sheda where he earlier commissioned 2,000 tractors for the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme President Tinubu noted the need for improved grazing and agricultural productivity in rural communities.
“We will work with you to turn challenges into prosperity,” he assured residents.
Minister Wike Highlights Progress Across Area Councils
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said the Tinubu administration has completed several rural roads under the 2023 supplementary budget, boosting access and economic activity in hard-to-reach areas.
“This is not propaganda. All six roads approved in the supplementary budget have been completed and commissioned. These projects are transforming access for rural populations,” Wike stated.
Completed projects include:
-
9km Paikon-Kore–Ibwa Road in Gwagwalada
-
5km Gaba–Tokulo Road in Bwari, including a two-span bridge
-
5km Tipper Garage Junction–LEA Secretariat Road in Kuje
-
11km Yangoji–Sukuku–Ebo Road in Kwali
-
5km Saburi 1 & 2 Road in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC)
-
Aguma Palace Radio Nigeria New Market Road in Gwagwalada
Wike also announced that additional roads, including the 18km Karshi–Nyanya Road and 16.4km Dualisation of Ushafa–War College Road, are scheduled for commissioning later in the week.
He emphasised that improved access is critical not only for transportation but also for food security, security patrols, and social inclusion.
“We encourage real farmers not speculators to take advantage of this infrastructure and support the government’s food security agenda,” he said.
Traditional Ruler Praises Tinubu, Wike
The Sarkin Pai, Alhaji Sani Abubakar, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for appointing Wike, whom he described as “Mr Project,” and for focusing on rural development.
“This road has opened up many economic activities. We struggled to get goods to market, but that has changed. The Honourable Minister has transformed how we live in rural communities,” he said.
The traditional ruler also thanked the President for what he called visible and impactful leadership.
”You have given us leadership. We are seeing results. Thank you, Mr President. Thank you, Honourable Minister. We are grateful, and we know more is coming.”
