Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has been appointed Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Banjul Accord Group (BAG) States.
The appointment was announced during the 4th Meeting of the BAG Council of Ministers held in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. This was disclosed in a statement by the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Mr Tunde Moshood.
The BAG Council comprises Ministers of Transport and Aviation from seven West African countries: Nigeria, Cabo Verde, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.
High-ranking delegates in attendance at the session included Dr Jose Luis S.A. Nogueira (Minister of Transport, Cabo Verde), Hon Ebrima Sillah (The Gambia), Hon Joseph Bukari Nikpe (Ghana), Hon Ousmane Gaoual Diallo (Guinea), Hon Sirleaf Ralph Tyler (Liberia), and Alhaji Fanday Turay (Sierra Leone).

As Chairman, Keyamo is expected to provide strategic leadership to the Council by promoting regional cooperation, harmonising aviation policies, and implementing initiatives aimed at improving air transport safety, efficiency, and development across the BAG region.
The Banjul Accord Group was established to enhance sub-regional collaboration in developing safe and sustainable civil aviation systems in West Africa, aligned with ICAO standards and recommended practices.
The Abuja meeting also featured high-level discussions on shared air transport challenges, capacity building, infrastructure development, and regional air connectivity.
Keyamo’s appointment is expected to usher in a renewed era of progress and cooperation among BAG member states.
