The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), together with heads of tertiary institutions and other key education leaders, has announced new minimum scores for admission into schools for the 2024/2025 academic session.
At the 2025 JAMB policy meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja, it was agreed that:
-
Universities will admit students with a minimum score of 150
-
Polytechnics and colleges of education will admit a minimum of 100
-
Colleges of nursing sciences will admit from a minimum of 140
This is an increase from last year’s university cut-off score, which was 140.
The meeting was led by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, and attended by Vice Chancellors, Rectors, Provosts, and heads of education agencies.
The new scores are general guidelines, but each school can set higher cut-off marks depending on how competitive their courses are.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, explained that these scores are the lowest allowed, and no school is permitted to go below them.
“The scores for admission are now 150 for universities, 100 for polytechnics and colleges of education, and 140 for nursing colleges,” he said.
He also said the goal is to make sure the system is fair, open, and based on merit.
“This policy fits our education system and supports fair and equal access to schools,” he added.
The meeting also agreed that while schools can choose who to admit, they must follow national rules and report back to JAMB for final approval.
Schools must complete their admission process on time and send their lists to JAMB for central processing.
